The Kid Stays in the Picture: The Extraordinary Life of Robert Evans
Robert Evans was a Hollywood legend. As the head of production at Paramount Pictures in the 1970s, he was responsible for some of the most iconic films of all time, including The Godfather, Chinatown, and Rosemary's Baby. Evans's life was a rollercoaster ride of success, excess, and scandal, and his story is told with wit, candor, and a touch of self-deprecation in his autobiography, The Kid Stays in the Picture.

Evans was born in New York City in 1930. He started his career in the mailroom at Columbia Pictures, and quickly worked his way up the ranks. In 1966, he was named head of production at Paramount Pictures, and he quickly made his mark with a string of hit films. Evans was known for his keen eye for talent, and he was instrumental in the careers of many of Hollywood's biggest stars, including Al Pacino, Jack Nicholson, and Mia Farrow.
Evans's personal life was as dramatic as his professional life. He was married seven times, and he had a reputation for hard partying and womanizing. In 1980, he was convicted of cocaine possession, and he served a brief prison sentence. After his release from prison, Evans continued to work in Hollywood, but his career never quite reached the same heights as it had in the 1970s.
Evans died in 2019 at the age of 89. He left behind a legacy of iconic films and a life story that is as fascinating as it is cautionary.
The Kid Stays in the Picture is a must-read for anyone interested in Hollywood history or in the life of a true original. Evans's story is told with wit, candor, and a touch of self-deprecation, and it is a roller coaster ride from start to finish.
